how not to: ignore neurodiversity as a small business

After launching our successful workshops for some of the UK’s leading companies, we’ve been asked repeatedly if there’s a more accessible option for small businesses (that don’t have a DEI or HR department or the budget to match).

(Disclaimer: This event is exclusively for small businesses with 15 employees or fewer in order to make our training accessible to all. If your business exceeds this employee count, please get in touch with us at hello@iampayingattention.co.uk where we will be able to find the suitable training for your and your business - thank you)

Join us online as we discuss the importance of embracing neurodiversity in the workplace. Learn strategies to create an inclusive environment. We will share insights on how small businesses can benefit from neurodiversity and avoid common pitfalls.

We recognise that neurodiversity training can often be heavily information-based, focused on one person’s lived experience, or an opportunity to preach to organisations about allllll the things they’re getting wrong (without giving them the space to think about their specific situation and challenges).

We’re different because we’ve been where you are. We know that you want to get it right for your neurodivergent colleagues, but under increasing pressure to constantly do more with less, it can be hard to know where to start.

so here it is.. a training workshop designed for small businesses that want to become more neuroinclusive with minimal capacity

our shared expertise includes...

  • a deep understanding of the diverse lived experience within our community of over 150k people

  • professional experience in both the private and not-for-profit sectors

  • professional backgrounds across branding and design, organisational development, corporate training, strategic consulting, business development and higher education

  • diverse professional networks across a variety of sectors

you will guide you through:

  • neurodiversity basics, like what is neurodivergence vs neurodiversity?

  • how to manage communications in a neuroinclusive way as a small business

  • how to make the hiring process more neurodivergent friendly as a small business

  • what are the different learning styles and how can we use them to our advantage?

  • the challenges small businesses face & how we can manage them

  • helpful tips & tools that can be implemented easily

There will also be time at the end of the session to open up the conversation & answer some questions.

your hosts:

Jess Joy & Charlotte Mia

Jess & Mia first crossed paths at the age of 19 while attending university in Plymouth. Years later, at the age of 27, they came to realize their diagnoses of ADHD and autism, prompting them, in late 2020, to create their Instagram account @IAmPayingAttention, which has since experienced rapid growth and engagement.

Their unique work focuses on amplifying the experiences of late-realized, highly masked neurodivergent individuals, bringing visibility to this often-overlooked community. They have taken strides in raising awareness by self-publishing a variety of accessible resources, informative guides, and interactive workbooks tailored to meet the needs of neurodivergent individuals.

Their efforts and insights have garnered attention, leading to features in prominent national news outlets. In an exciting development, they participated in a competitive 11-way publishing auction before successfully signing their first book deal with HarperCollins in August 2022.

Their debut book, titled 'How Not to Fit In: An Unapologetic Guide to Navigating Autism and ADHD,' was released in February 2024. This work not only shares their personal narratives and the stories of their community but also includes workbook prompts and employs a humorous approach to the complexities of neurodivergence.

With a deep commitment to advocacy, they are now combining their lived experiences, knowledge, research, and understanding of the neurodivergent community to offer comprehensive training sessions designed to foster more inclusive and neurodivergent-friendly spaces.
